BODY & SOUL MAGAZINE: A Better Bottle - September 2006 The good news about reusable water bottles is that they reduce waste. The bad news: Some can leach harmful chemicals into your water. In order t distinguish the safe from the not-so-safe, check the number on the bottom of the bottle. Plastics numbred 3, 6, and 7 have come under scrutiny. Stainless steel or aluminum bottles make good, durable choices, as do those from non-leaching 1, 2, 4, or 5 plastic. |

the water that pours out of that plastic bottle. Enter SIGG. This Swiss company specializes in aluminum bottles suitable for beverages of all kinds. We field-tested several models of the SIGG Sports Bottle – ranging in size from 0.75L to 1.5L. The 0.75L volume is bigger than the standard bike bottle, but the SIGG still fits securely into a bike bottle cage. Tester Sara Doherty, who is hard at work training for a half-Iron Man triathlon, dubbed the SIGG her favorite bottle ever. | |

Madonna's busy youngsters, Lourdes and Rocco, stay hydrated in a healthy way with SIGG kids water bottles. Rather than leaking harmful chemicals into the air once they're disposed of, the bottles are reusable and 100% recyclable. |

BACKPACKER: World's Toughest Water bottle - June 2006 THE TEST: Water bottles are so tough these days we knew we needed serious firepower to find their breaking point. So we hauled a 100-pound cannon packed with golf balls and enough muzzlepower to kill Godzilla to a shooting range near Ault, CO. Then we blasted five top brands, figuring any bottle that could handle such a blitz could surely survive your worst trail abuse. THE RESULT: Pure carnage. When the smoke cleared, all that remained was twisted metal and plastic. Only two bottles survived direct hits. The others had blown tops, gaping holes, and complete obliteration - some bottle bits landed 70 yards away. The winner? The seamless aluminum Sigg Traveler ($20; 4.3oz; www.mysigg.com), which was deeply dented but still usable. |

The Stylefile Newsletter: Go Green: Can I bum a SIGG? - December 2006
Bottled water has become part of the culinary landscape. Fine restaurants offer water lists, consumers argue the merits of Poland Spring over Evian (and vice versa) and you can't chow at a fine eatery without first answering the question, "sparkling or flat?" Too bad that for every practically serving of water we consume there's a plastic or glass bottle leftover. Thankfully Swiss company Sigg has developed fashion-forward reusable bottles in over 100 designs as an alternative for water bottle junkies.
Although the bottles are metallic, the inner lining is non-toxic and thus doesn't give off a metallic taste or take on the flavor of the beverage consumed (so you can switch from Jolt to Pomegranate juice and back to water). Also these days plastic is under scrutiny for possibly polluting the agua inside, while this metal is toxin-free, which may explain why Madonna, Demi Moore, Cindy Crawford and David Beckham have been rumored fans. And if you drink from Sigg bottles, you'll have bodies like all of the above. Okay, that's a lie. But it's still a good idea.
SheFindsMom.com: Quench Your Thirst... Swiss Style - December 2006

Savion Newsletter: Savion Health: Drinking in Style - October 2006
Plastic water bottles are so last century. Aluminum water bottles are in and every savionaire should own several. The premium water bottle of choice is by SIGG, the makers of high-quality drinking systems for leisure and sports use. SIGG's Swiss-made water bottles are crafted from one piece of pure aluminum, which makes them unbreakable and durable. They are also hygienic because unlike plastic bottles, SIGG's water bottle liners are resistant to energy drinks, fruit acids and soda.

Simply Green by Danny Seo: Bad Eco-Habits: Bottled Water - September 2006
When I do media interviews, I talk often about people have bad eco habits without even knowing it. For example, many of us leave our cell phone chargers in the wall thinking it stops charging our phones when we disconnect it from the phone. But in reality, it just keeps on charging, wasting energy.
For me, as green as I try to live, the one bad habit I've had lately is bottled water. I've been justifying my bottled water purchases as my one eco-sin; something that I know is bad, but I can't be perfect. When I go to the gym, it just seemed easier to bring a chilled bottle of water and drink from it instead of the germ-infested water fountain. It IS cold and flu season, after all, I would remind myself. Well, I've decided that isn't an excuse at all, and I'm giving it all up.
After I made a stink at my gym that they should have a recycling bin for all these bottles, I found myself standing in front of the overflowing blue bin staring at a pile of plastic bottles. Sure, I thought, they'd get "recycled," but really, would they truly get recycled into something else? Is there a market for plastic recyclables? At the end of the day though, it's a petroleum based product that just truly sucks for the planet.
So, today I'm online shopping for a reusable water bottle and I think I found something that is going to become my new best friend. SIGG – Lots of pretty designs here. Check out their website.
I feel better already breaking my habit.
IdealBite.com: Who Needs a Dog or a Baby?! - February 2006
I took a red eye flight last night from LA to NY. Personally, unless you are landing in a foreign country or are STARTING your trip, not ending it, I think one should avoid redeyes at all costs. It's just too depressing to show up at dawn and start a work day.
In spite of the woman who threw a hissy fit and had to be taken off the flight before we could take off (true story), I did, however, have quite a nice flight – partially due to the fact that people couldn't get enough of my water bottle. In a world where apparently you are supposed to have a toy dog or a baby in order to get picked up, I learned last night, that it's really the water bottle that does the trick.
Apparently, I am not the only one who has a mad love of my SIGG water bottle – nearly everyone who saw me sip out of it remarked on it and asked where they could get one. I was a one-woman marketing machine for SIGG.

New Senior Managers Join SIGG.
October 1, 2009
(Frauenfeld, Switzerland)SIGG Switzerland, the world’s leading maker of reusable bottles, announced today that two new senior managers have joined their team.
Michael Mucha has been named the new General Manager of SIGG Germany. Michael brings with him a wealth of experience in both the sports world as well as in healthy, organic products. He is a veteran of adidas where he ran European Marketing for their Reebok brand. And he spent 5 years as the Chief Marketing Officer of Waleda, a European leader in healthy body care products. Michael will work out of SIGG Germany’s office in Goeppingen, Germany.
“SIGG has had a strong presence in Germany for decades but we opened a subsidiary there only in 2008,” stated Steve Wasik, CEO SIGG Switzerland. “We value Michael’s experience developing world class brands and we believe he has the abilities to lead the SIGG business to even greater levels in Germany.”
Olivia Brown has joined SIGG as the new Director of Global Marketing. Olivia has spent the past 12 years at CIBA Vision, a division of Health Care giant Novartis. While at CIBA, Olivia has worked as Global Marketing Manager in Atlanta, Business Unit Head in the UK, and Marketing Manager of Emerging Markets. She has also demonstrated General Management skills most recently as CIBA’s Country Manager for Switzerland. Olivia will be based in SIGG Switzerland’s world headquarters in Frauenfeld, Switzerland.
“Olivia brings to SIGG not only strong fundamental marketing skills but also a tremendous international perspective,” said Wasik. “We believe she has a passionate and creative spirit and we are extremely confident in placing the SIGG brand in Olivia’s very capable hands.”
It may be interesting to note that no senior managers have departed SIGG recently. These new hires are purely incremental. “We believe that the additions of Olivia and Michael have strengthened the SIGG team and positioned us well for continued growth,” added Wasik.

SIGG Bottles Recognized for Best Supporting Role in
New Movie "AWAY WE GO".
June 13, 2009
Directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (“American Beauty”), new film AWAY WE GO is poignant, funny, heartfelt and filled with love and adventure. Emotionally anchored by gifted performances from Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski, this is the journey of life at its simplest and most beautiful.
Notable is that AWAY WE GO was an entirely “green” production, right down to the use of a specialized 3-perf film stock which uses 25% less film stock and chemicals in the manufacturing and processing, not to mention rechargeable batteries, use of reclaimed Biodiesel 5 petroleum and SIGG water bottles with filtered tap water. Mendes was asked about how “going green” alters a production. While it doesn’t change anything from his perspective as a director, “It was worth it because the whole green thing is really important and we went a long way. You always feel so weirdly guilty on a movie set. The amount of stuff. It’s the circus come to town. Pantechnics, cranes, trailers and gas guzzling SUV’s and vast quantities of food that so much gets thrown away at the end of the day. To be doing it totally just stripped away, actually helped the film as well as helped the environment. It felt like we were just using what we need. . . That stuff makes a difference. I was impressed with the whole endeavor.”
“It’s fantastic to see this very visible example of how easy it can be to go green,” said Steve Wasik, SIGG Switzerland CEO. “Mr. Mendes is an incredibly gifted director and we are honored that SIGG played a small role in the making of his latest film.”

SIGG Switzerland Increases its Commitment to the Environment
Help Save the Planet and Save Money in the Process
February 15, 2009
During these difficult economic times, many consumers are looking for areas where they can cut back and save money. What if you could save money …AND help save the planet? You can! By kicking your bottled water habit!
After all, many bottled water brands are simply purified tap water. And others are shipped from thousands of miles away leaving behind a huge carbon footprint. Over 100 million PET plastic bottles wind up in our world’s landfills – every day! Drinking tap water and using a SIGG reusable water bottle helps to reduce unnecessary waste caused by disposable PET plastic bottles. But that’s not the only way utilizing a SIGG can benefit the planet.
Over the last 2 years, SIGG has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to protecting the environment through its SIGG USA subsidiary. SIGG Switzerland is extremely proud to that we have expanded our commitment to the planet by becoming a worldwide member of the organization 1% For the Planet in 2009. We are committed to donating 1% of our worldwide SIGG sales to eco-causes around the globe and, by the end of 2009, we expect to pass our goal of $1 million invested in protecting the planet.
We are also determined to constantly improving the sustainability of our operations. Our team of Swiss engineers has successfully completed two internal eco-initiatives:
| 1. Packaging Reduction – SIGG cartons will be made from recycled paper and our team has re-engineered the containers to reduce packaging by 6 tons in 2009. |
|
2. New Liner Technology – SIGG bottles are lined with a powder-based, protective coating and our new manufacturing procedure ensures there is absolutely no waste. In addition, the new SIGG bottle liner retains all of the properties of the old liner: no taste transfer, no smell transfer, no leaching. |
An average family spends about $500 per year on bottled water. That means over the average in usage life of the SIGG bottles, a family will save about $4,000. Which means purchasing SIGGs for your family is not only Eco-Logical, it’s Eco-Nomical.
“Switzerland is often recognized as the most environmentally conscious country in the world and we are committed to upholding that reputation,” states Steve Wasik, SIGG CEO. “All SIGG water bottles are manufactured directly by us at our own factory in Frauenfeld Switzerland enabling us to control our high quality standards as well as ensuring that manufacturing takes place with the very least impact to the environment. Most of our competitors utilize 3rd party manufacturers in China and cannot make this same claim.”
